Director of Development
Position Type: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to Director of Operations and CEO
Monday- Friday- Some weekends as needed
Position Overview:
Springer seeks qualified, highly motivated individual to join our senior leadership team
and oversee fundraising at the State Theatre of Georgia. The Director of Development
will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy
to support Springer Opera House’s mission and vision. This individual will lead all
fundraising campaigns, including major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, annual
fund, and donor relations. The Director of Development will work closely with the
CEO/Executive Producer, Board of Directors, Artistic Director, and other senior leaders
to identify and secure funding opportunities, ensuring sustainable and strategic
financial growth for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet short-term and
long-term organizational goals.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with major donors, foundations, corporations, and
key stakeholders to secure significant contributions.
- Lead the identification, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts, including individual
donors, family foundations, and corporate partnerships.
- Oversee the creation of fundraising materials and messaging to effectively communicate
the organization’s impact and vision to potential donors.
- Identify new and innovative fundraising opportunities, including digital campaigns,
special events, and grant opportunities.
- Develop and track performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of fundraising
campaigns and make data-driven decisions for improvement.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure consistency in messaging across all
fundraising channels.
- Manage a medium load of grant proposals to foundations and government entities,
ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop strategies for
board engagement and fundraising leadership.
- Work with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure donation accounting and provide
accurate reporting to the Board of Directors and generate precise reports for the annual
audit.
- Plan and execute fundraising events, including galas, donor appreciation events, and
other community engagement opportunities.
- Maintain donor records including pledge contributions and current contact information
for all donors.
- Execute end of year mailing and other annual contribution communications with
Springer Society members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, or theatre (preferred, not
required)
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and
grant writing with a proven track record of successful fundraising and achieving revenue
goals.
- Strong understanding of donor stewardship and relationship-building techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling
narratives and engage diverse audiences.
- Proficient in donor management softwares, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly organized, results-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced
environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization or mission-driven environment. Theatre,
historic preservation experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with the Columbus philanthropic community and potential donor networks.
- Knowledge of fundraising trends, best practices, and compliance regulations.
