Job Title: Preschool Teacher Assistant
Classification: Full Time 30 hrs per wk / Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Salary Range:$15.00-$16.50
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Reports To: Early Childhood Education Director
Job Summary:
The Preschool Teacher Assistant supports the classroom by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. A Teacher Assistant helps implement a quality educational program by developing positive relationships with the children and their parents while maintaining all Vermont Childcare Licensing requirements. The Teacher Assistant observes and documents children’s interests and progress, and relays that information back to parents and coworkers. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Associate Teacher, Classroom Coordinator and the Director.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the implementation of curriculum activities and encourage participation by children with the guidance of the Teacher Associate or Classroom Coordinator.
- Provide developmentally appropriate supervision for all the children when counted in ratio.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and coworkers.
- Actively engage in keeping the classroom clean and organized
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and Kid Reports.
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center and back.
- Document observations and enter into Teaching Strategies Gold.
- Help complete all required documentation and paperwork in the classroom including the details of a child’s activities throughout their day.
- Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan
- Complete a minimum of 18 hours of training each year.
- Sit with the children during meal times and model good eating habits.
- Be flexible to help cover in other classrooms as necessary to maintain ratios and support other classrooms. This contributes to the overall success of the program, and helps create relationships with all children and coworkers.
- Attend monthly staff meeting.
- Engage in SAPCC events, activities and fundraisers.
- Follow SAPCC Employee Handbook, Center policies and procedures, state regulations, and PlayWorks Protocols and Procedures document
- Play!!!
- Any additional tasks assigned by the Director or Classroom Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- At least 1-year experience working with children under the age of 6 years old.
- Highschool Diploma/GED and Childcare Fundamentals or one 3 credit college course in child development.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Be able to give and receive feedback in your work environment.
- Highly developed professional ethics standards
- Access to reliable transportation
- Ability to pass any required background checks
- Be able to maintain a professional environment

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
