Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an ADA Hearing Intepreter for the 2024-2025 school year.  We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio.  The Springfield City School District values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff.  Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography.  We are Wildcats!

As an Interpreter you are required to:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree from an approved interpreter training program.
  • An Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure (Alternatives to the above qualifications may be found appropriate and acceptable)   

As an Interpreter you will:
  • Interprets educational information and casual classroom conversation to and from the Deaf teacher and
    regular education students.
    ? Assists Deaf teacher with classroom management making sure he/she is aware of class climate and any
    issues that arise.
    ? Renders the message faithfully, always conveying the content and spirit of the speaker, using language
    most readily understood by the Deaf teacher whom they serve (e.g., voice of Deaf Teacher in the same
    spirit of the signer, conveying content of speaker).
    ? Uses the American Sign Language mode of communication that best suits the Deaf Teacher’s needs.
    ? Facilitates communication in the regular classroom without counseling, advising, or interjecting personal
    opinions, unless given permission by Deaf teacher. Always maintaining a professional/objective demeanor.
    ? Relates the general information involving students and staff to the Deaf Teacher.
    ? Interprets for the Deaf teacher in asking questions of the student and staff.
    ? Tutors the students, give tests, grade papers, write passes, answer the classroom phone, etc. as instructed
    by the Deaf classroom teacher upon request.
    ? Follows the Springfield City Schools discipline policy and school handbooks regarding referrals for
    discipline.
    ? Remains in the regular classroom with the regular education teacher and students while present during
    assigned period.
    ? Interprets for school activities and related school activities (e.g., Professional development, orientation,
    field trips, overnight outings, athletic activities and events, staff meetings, parent/teacher conferences, IEP
    conferences, banquets, plays, graduation, etc).
    ? Calls appropriate Interpreter Agency when absent or on leave.
    ? Maintains Educational Interpreter License with the State of Ohio.
    ? Maintains an approved Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) with the Springfield City School
    District.
    ? Performs other duties as assigned.

What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, this position works 7.25 hours per day, 190 days per year. 

Salary ranges from $23.62 to $27.53 depending on position and experience
