Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Mechanic Helper in the Transportation Department for the 2024-2025 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. As a Mechanic Helper you are required to:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of successful experience in motor vehicle repair or equivalent training
- Must have a working knowledge of diesel and gas engines.
- Must have knowledge of computer programs for parts, work orders and inventory.
- Must not have an accumulation of four (4) points on driving record with Bureau of Motor Vehicles within the last two (2) years and no DUI's.
- Must pass a physical examination. • Must be insurable and have the ability to be bonded.
- Must possess and maintain a Commercial Driver's License with a class B and class P endorsement, or willing to acquire within 180 days of being appointed.
- Must possess tools necessary to perform job duties.
As a Mechanic Helper you will:
- Uses hand and power tools to perform repairs on school board owned vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to buses, trucks, tractors, and mowing equipment; reconditions buses as designated by the supervisor.
- Performs regular inspection of vehicles; Prepares, maintains, and follows a periodic service schedule for all buses
- Prepares and follows a schedule of preventative maintenance to locate and correct problems.
- Orders parts and supplies and maintains the necessary inventory of parts, materials, and supplies.
- Maintains school board owned mowing equipment and small motors
- Maintains custodial equipment floor scrubbers, vacuums, appliances, etc.
- Responds to all bus calls as instructed by the supervisor
- Cleans and maintains Transportation facilities
- Prepares school buses for annual state inspection.
- Lifts and moves equipment, parts, materials, or supplies Acquires information and prepares daily and monthly reports for all storage tanks (e.g., gasoline, diesel, and used oil).
- Performs other duties as assigned
What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, this position works 8 hours per day, 260 days per year.
Monday - Friday 6:30am - 3:30pm or as assigned
Starting salary is $18.03 per hour
