Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Parent Educator for the 2024-2025 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. A certified parent educator implements the PAT model within the home, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educator partners, facilitates, and reflects with families. This is done by providing education in the form of personal visits, group meetings, screenings, and linkages to a network of resources for parents and children.
As a Parent Educator you are required to:
- Minimum of an Associate's degree in early childhood education, social work, health or a related field of study.
- Experience working with young children and their parents
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
- Strong organizational and record keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
- Computer skills include web browsing, email, internet, and word processing
As a Parent Educator you will:
- Plan, provide and document regular personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being using the Foundational Curriculum Prenatal to 5 Years
- Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family
- Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family. Connect them to resources that help them reach their stated goals and address their needs. Help parents and children transition to other services as needed.
- Maintain and submit in a timely manner all required family and program documentation. Organize and inventory supplies, materials, etc.
- Represent the Parents as Teachers program at various community events supporting families and/or young children. Engage in recruitment activities.
- Coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children.
- Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually. Participate in at least two hours of reflective supervision and staff meetings monthly.

What We Offer:
Position is an hourly position (up to 30 hours per week), 48 weeks per year, non-bargained position and ineligible for benefits.
