English as a Second Language Teacher

LOCATION:  Springfield High School

CONTRACT PERIOD: 180 days

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Illinois PEL, with ESL endorsement 6-12
2. Knowledge in the area of reading and language acquisition
3. Effective communication skills
4. Ability to collaborate with other teachers and parents
5. Ability to plan, implement and evaluate effective teaching strategies for English Language Learner
6. Strong organizational and time management skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Instruct assigned students in all language arts areas: reading, writing, speaking and comprehension
2. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established curriculum goals and communicate clear objectives to the students for all lessons
3. Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest and abilities of students
4. Employ a variety of instructional techniques
5. Administer required assessments and tests to students in accordance with state and district testing requirements
6. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
7. Establish and maintain communication with parents and staff members
8. Other duties as assigned
