What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Bookkeeper position at Springfield Housing Authority?
The Springfield Housing Authority, consistent with its equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, invites applicants for the Bookkeeper position. This is a regular position with benefits. Rate: $24.04 per hour, 40 hours/ week, M-F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Position will remain open until filled but for not less than 2 weeks from the date of this Notice.
Bookkeeper
Responsibilities: Perform a variety of accounting duties including: payroll processing, Section 8 landlord and utility payment processing and Accounts Payable processing; preparing, balancing and reconciling accounts in accordance with GAAP, federal and state rules, regulations and requirements.
Duties include: Perform accounting procedures to ensure the accuracy of landlord and AP payments including: reviewing and verifying accuracy for Section 8 rent being paid and vendor invoices; Answer phone calls from landlords and vendors to provide information and data regarding payment questions; Review incoming invoices for previous and/or upcoming payments; Check and verify purchase orders against invoices; Reconcile discrepancies by contacting purchasing or department manager; Prepare and print checks for scheduled payment along with final disbursement report; Generate and prepare report for A/P reimbursement; Transfer funds in the bank to cover payments; Perform payroll duties including: set up ACH transactions for weekly and monthly payroll bills; prepare journal entries; reimburse payroll account to ensure payments; and other schedule tasks to prepare weekly payroll for employees of SHA; Prepare a variety of periodic or special schedules and reports, assist in other accounting areas, and filing as required; Perform other similar duties as assigned or directed by supervisor.
Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of a specialized or technical field such as general accounting disciplines, involving a thorough knowledge plus the application of basic theory. High school diploma plus additional specialized training equal to 2 years of college or 5 years of governmental accounting experience. Diversified duties involving a knowledge of general accounting and the use of a wide range of procedures. Requires the use of judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems and transactions and in the determination of actions to be taken within the limits of standard of accepted practice. Under direction where definite objectives are established, plans and arranges significant portion of own work, referring only unusual cases to manager of others. Regular contacts with reporting staff, other departments, landlords, vendors, clients; furnishing or obtaining information for reports. Works with confidential information such as process, service and product cost, personnel records, credit ratings, individual wage and salary rates, or schedules which, if disclosed, might have significant internal effect or minor external effect. Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination most of the time; or part-time normal and part-time concentrated attention and coordination.
