A primary responsibility of all jobs at the Springfield JCC is to ensure that each and every member, guest and visitor feels welcome and has a positive experience during their time at the J. This position requires one to be detail oriented and well organized, with the ability to plan programs, classes and schedules in advance. The Group Exercise Instructor must be reliable, dependable, and be able to adapt when needed. It is understood that this position may require evening or weekend hours, depending on departmental needs. This position requires being professional, knowledgeable, motivating, and using excellent customer service skills. The Group Exercise Instructor is expected to be innovative, imaginative and be a positive role model for members and the Health and Wellness department alike.

- Ensure that scheduled group exercise class(es) meet the standards of quality and excellence put forth by the JCC.
- Instruct members for the complete duration of the group exercise class and deliver a safe, knowledgeable, enjoyable, motivating, educational, professional class.
- Be prepared for each class with a class plan and appropriate music.
- Provide back-up support and fill-in where needed in the absence of the regularly scheduled instructor. Coverage may be needed in a variety of classes including strength, cycling, yoga, meditation, stretching/recovery, and more.
- Develop meaningful relationships with members through supervision of classes and day-to-day interactions.
- Be able to identify issues/improper technique and provide modifications and adapt when needed.
- Use excellent customer service skills to develop relationships with members, the general public and fellow Health & Wellness team members.
- Maintain a safe and clean exercise environment at all times and ensure all equipment is safe for use by members prior to class.
- Ensure proper technique is taught throughout each class.

- Must have current CPR, First Aid and AED certification.
- Current nationally accredited group exercise certification (ACSM, ACE, AFFA, etc.) or specialty certification required.
- Previous experience in teaching group exercise preferred.
