We have four health center locations providing primary care and behavioral health: Charlestown Health Center (NH), Springfield Health Center, Ludlow Health Center and Mountain Valley Health Center; one dental center in Chester, VT, a vision center within our Springfield site, four school-based health clinics in Springfield currently providing behavioral health services, and a mobile unit.

Position Summary:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will play a pivotal role in advancing the clinical excellence and strategic vision of North Star Health. The CMO will provide leadership and oversight of all medical services, ensuring high standards of patient care, compliance with regulatory requirements, and alignment with the organization's mission, values, operating principles and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Leadership: Oversee the delivery of care, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered services (Medical, Behavioral Health, Dental and Vision) and be a steward of the culture and values of the organization.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate as part of the executive leadership team to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance population health, operational efficiency, employee satisfaction, patient satisfaction, cost containment and organizational sustainability.
- Quality Improvement: Support quality improvement initiatives and lead clinical audits to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and best practices. Ensure training courses are developed for providers monthly that cover required, high risk and useful topics.
- Provider Management: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate medical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Patient Care: Promote evidence-based practices and innovative care models to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. Responsibilities will include 16 hours weekly of patient facing time.
- Collaboration: Work closely with administrative and clinical teams to integrate services and coordinate care across disciplines.
- Community Engagement: Represent the organization in community and professional settings, advocating for public health initiatives and partnerships.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including HRSA requirements specific to FQHCs.
- Communication: Support an open-door policy and transparent communication to keep providers informed of organizational, clinical and regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification preferably in Family practice or Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. BA or MBA are also helpful but not required.
- Valid medical license (or willingness to obtain a license) in the states of Vermont and New Hampshire
- 5 years or more of clinical experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role preferred.
- Experience working in an FQHC or similar community health setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, quality improvement, and risk management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills including strengths in inspirational change management.
