GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing leadership and general support to the District's student transportation function by assisting the Director of Transportation in the development and execution of effective and efficient operations; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage scheduling of staff to ensure adequate resources are available.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding service and performance issues.
  • Assist in developing long and short range plans in relation to assigned administrative responsibilities ensuring organizational objectives are achieved in the most efficient and timely manner.
  • Assist with fiscal year budget and various reports ensuring that allocations are accurate, record revenues, expenses are within budget limits, and full compliance with fiscal practices.
  • Assist in providing job related activities for department personnel ensuring their job success with a strong emphasis of safety and compliance with legal mandates.
  • Assist with personnel administrative functions enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring achievement of department/program outcomes.
  • Assist in coordinating student transportation activities with school officials, department heads, and other interested groups or individuals ensuring success of district transportation needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Compile data from a variety of sources analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with organization policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components.
  • Maintain a wide variety of documents and files ensuring the accurate documentation of required activities and department processes.
  • Prepare a variety of materials documenting activities and issues, meet compliance requirements, provide audit references, and/or provide supporting materials for requested actions.
  • Respond to emergencies addressing immediate safety concerns.
  • Respond to a variety of inquiries identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action to resolve the issue.
  • Review and investigate incidents, bus crashes, and/or performance issues.
  • Develop and maintain emergency operations protocols, schedules; and manage drills and exercises.
  • Supervise assigned personnel ensuring success of their department and individual performance objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

 

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Class "B" CDL with passenger, air brake and school bus endorsements.
  • Pre-Placement Physical Capacities Test
  • Random Drug and Alcohol Testing
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and create action plans.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: state and federal guidelines related to school transportation; personnel processes; pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; education code; and budget management and accounting.
  • Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; budgeting and financial management; and developing effective working relationships.
  • Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.

Salary : $78,603 - $112,803
