Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Initiatives, the Academic & Transfer Counselor, SUCCESS provides comprehensive, individualized support to program participants, guiding them through the college completion process. This position supports students participating in SUCCESS programs, including the Male Initiative for Leadership and Education (MILE) and the Lead : Female Leadership and Mentoring Program. The Academic & Transfer Counselor provides holistic student support for registration, retention, student success, transfer, and / or completion. This position works collaboratively to ensure every student in their assigned caseload is provided with individualized, holistic, and proactive academic, career, and transfer counseling and support.
This position involves researching and implementing best practices, analyzing student success data, compiling reports, and organizing individual and group advising sessions, career and transfer events, and enrichment activities. The Academic & Transfer Counselor, SUCCESS, collaborates across programs to foster student success through proactive engagement and mentorship. This position plays a key role in enhancing access, retention, and completion rates for underrepresented male- and female-identifying students at STCC.
This is a one-year term position, with the potential for a permanent appointment based on institutional needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
With an intentional focus on students participating in SUCCESS programs, this position is responsible for :
- Advising and holistic wraparound support for an assigned caseload of students, including but not limited to areas such as course registration, major selection, degree audits, transfer planning, and graduation requirements to align academic plans with career goals.
- Conduct intake meetings, administer assessments (including LASSI), and developing personalized academic plans based on student needs, interests, and strengths.
- Supporting students utilizing institutional systems for course registration, tuition payments, financial aid tracking, and academic progress monitoring.
- Engaging in regular, proactive communication and ongoing outreach via phone, text, e-mail, and one-on-one contact to students. Follow-up on early alerts and offer referrals to support and resources. Coordinate targeted interventions in collaboration with faculty, staff, and support teams.
- Sharing information on college programs, student support services, financial assistance, and referrals to campus supports to address challenges and implement solutions that support persistence and degree completion.
- Tracking student success indicators (enrollment, retention, engagement) and maintaining accurate records for program assessment and reporting.
- Maintaining a strong commitment to student satisfaction by anticipating needs and delivering high-quality, professional support services.
- Supporting students in career exploration by connecting them with employer partnerships, internships, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborating with the Academic Coordinator, SUCCESS to design, implement, and assess leadership, social, and educational programming, including workshops on study skills, time management, and career readiness.
- Distributing marketing materials to increase program visibility and student participation.
- Participating in enrollment service events and initiatives aimed at promoting the use of college-wide systems and processes such as registration, billing / payments, financial aid status, and academic status.
- Participating in enrollment services, events, and outreach initiatives including new student orientation and onboarding, welcome events, etc.
- Assisting enrollment services during peak registration periods, providing advising and registration support as assigned.
- Working cross-functionally with other teams, building customer relationships, and other special projects, as necessary.
- Participating in department, division and college-wide meetings as well as committees and professional development opportunities as assigned.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned, which do not alter the basic level of the position.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Works in an office setting. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The individual needs to move about inside the office to access office machinery. Constantly operates a computer and other equipment i.e. copier. This person frequently communicates with students, faculty and staff. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
