Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related.
Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Health and Physical Education (K-12) (required).
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (preferred).
Strong knowledge of health education, physical fitness principles, and sports instruction.
Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
Effective classroom management and behavior management skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Passion for student health, wellness, and physical activity.
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents in a diverse school community.
Description:
The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community. This position will be a Health/PE Teacher at our middle school for grades 6-8. SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with Pennsylvania state standards for Health and Physical Education.
- Teach students fundamental motor skills, fitness activities, team sports, and individual sports.
- Educate students on health topics, including nutrition, mental health, substance abuse prevention, human growth and development, and personal wellness.
- Adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and needs.
- Promote student participation in physical activities that encourage teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle choices and the development of lifelong fitness habits.
- Assess and monitor students' physical fitness and health knowledge through evaluations and skill-based assessments.
- Provide support and guidance to students on personal health and fitness goals.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of sports and fitness equipment.
- Enforce safety rules and injury prevention measures during physical activities.
- Work with colleagues, school nurses, counselors, and administrators to promote student health and wellness.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, health concerns, and physical activity participation.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and school wellness initiatives.
- Support school-wide health programs, including wellness fairs, intramural activities, and extracurricular sports programs.
