What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Advocate (2nd Shift: 3-11pm) position at SpringHaven, Inc. Domestic Violence Program?
We are looking for a Family Advocate to join our team and provide support to survivors of domestic violence. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the needs of individuals, providing case management services, connecting individuals to resources, and advocating for them. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as a passion for helping others. Responsibilities:
1. Answer 24-hour crisis line and provide crisis intervention, safety planning and referrals.
2. Complete shelter intake and other related forms as required.
3. Maintain safety and security of the shelter. Monitor the interior of the shelter at regular intervals during shift to assure the safety and well-being of residents.
4. Assist survivors with filing protective orders.
5. Complete exit process with residents leaving shelter.
6. Provide information about community resources.
7. Document all client contact advocacy, referrals, statistics, and community contacts as necessary and according to policies and procedures.
8. Participate in regular staff meetings.
9. Transport clients to meet goals.
10. Provide case management to shelter residents to assist in development and implementation of a service plan, including but not limited to, seeking housing, education, employment and childcare.
11. Provide group and educational programming to residents.
12. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred or 1 year related experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have a valid Kentucky driver’s license and an insurable driving/safety record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
· Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
· Demonstrate adaptability, discreate and ethical behavior, teambuilding and relationship building skills.
· Have basic knowledge on intimate partner violence including, but not limited to, the cycle of abuse, dynamics of domestic violence, community resources, and trauma.
· The ability and willingness to communicate and work well with survivors from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds with various religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations, age variance, and differing abilities.
· Develop relationships with boundaries. The Advocate should have self-awareness/reflection and demonstrate professional social skills.
· Work in stressful, crisis-oriented situations.
· Maintain confidentiality.
Other Requirements:
· Obtain Level 1 Certification within the first year of employment for full-time staff and maintain certification for duration of employment with SpringHaven.
· Ability to pass and maintain background check required by the agency.
· Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evening shifts, occasional weekends and holidays.
· Completion of First Aid/CPR and Blood-borne Pathogen Training.
· Must comply with all agency policies and procedures including those regarding confidentiality, conduct, and record keeping.
· While performing duties of this job, Advocate may be required to sit, stand, walk, climb steps, lift/move up to 10 pounds.
