The Housing Advocate will aid shelter and outreach clients who are homeless due to domestic violence. The advocate will assist individuals and families in finding and/or keeping safe, appropriate, and affordable housing. The Housing Advocate will act in accordance with the Fair Housing Act, and all state and federal fair housing regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Locate safe, affordable, and accessible housing opportunities for clients.

2. Assist clients in locating furniture or household items.

3. Complete all paperwork as required by funders.

4. Assist with case management of housing searches and placement.

5. Compile and report statistical information on participants as required.

6. Attend housing meetings and training.

7. Work in shelter as needed and perform all shelter duties.

8. Build community resources and partnerships regarding housing.

9. Perform all other duties as assigned.

10. Work various hours to meet the needs of clients.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred or 1-year related experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have a valid Kentucky driver’s license and an insurable driving/safety record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

· The Advocate must have strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

· Must demonstrate adaptability, discreet and ethical behavior, teambuilding and relationship building skills.

· Must have basic knowledge on intimate partner violence including, but not limited to, the cycle of abuse, dynamics of domestic violence, community resources, and trauma.

· Must have the ability and willingness to communicate and work well with survivors from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds with various religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations, age variance, and differing abilities.

· Must be able to develop relationships with boundaries. The advocate should have self-awareness/reflection and demonstrate professional social skills.

· Must be able to work in stressful, crisis-oriented situations.

· Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

· Basic knowledge of housing, individuals’ rights and housing laws.

Other Requirements

· Obtain Level 1 Certification within the first year of employment for full-time staff and maintain certification for duration of employment with SpringHaven.

· Ability to pass and maintain background check required by the agency.

· Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evening shifts, occasional weekends, and holidays.

· Completion of First Aid/CPR and Blood-borne Pathogen Training.

· Must comply with all agency policies and procedures including those regarding confidentiality, conduct, and record keeping.

· While performing duties of this job, may be required to sit, stand, walk, climb steps, lift/move up to 10 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 per hour
