Associate Attorney – Tax Controversy
Location: Skokie, IL (Hybrid: 1-2 days remote)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join our Tax Controversy Department. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in tax law or litigation, with a strong ability to represent clients before the IRS and state tax authorities, negotiate settlements, and handle audits and tax disputes.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients before the IRS and state tax authorities for payment plans, Offer in Compromise, and compliance resolutions.
- Advocate for clients in federal and state tax audits (income tax, sales tax, and other audits).
- Research and consult on IRS practice and procedural issues, including tax assessments, collections, penalties, and statute of limitations.
- Draft persuasive legal documents and written communications to tax authorities.
- Address IRS account issues for individuals and businesses, including entity classification corrections.
- Collaborate with other practice groups on corporate tax and cryptocurrency tax matters.
- Stay up to date on changes in tax law and IRS procedures through research and firm training.
- Provide clear, practical legal guidance to corporate and individual clients.
Basic Qualifications
- J.D. degree and licensed to practice in Illinois.
- Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
- Experience handling federal and state tax matters for individuals and businesses.
- Ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals and clients.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in tax law.
- Experience handling IRS and Illinois tax payment plans, audits, and disputes.
- Litigation experience is a strong plus, as skills in drafting legal documents, arguing positions, and negotiating resolutions align with tax controversy work.
- Experience in Tax Court and District Court is preferred.
- Knowledge of cryptocurrency tax law is a plus.
