ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR

The purpose of this position is to develop and implement an activity program in compliance with the State and Federal requirements to meet residents’ individual psychosocial needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Must be certified as an Activity director from a State approved program.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

o Must have the ability to listen to others and be creative in meeting those needs.
o Maintain a positive attitude.
o Communicate with residents, families and staff in a professional and tactful manner.

o Completion of secondary education and must be able to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
o Experience with the geriatric patient and the long-term care setting.
o Must maintain regular attendance. Must be flexible in work hours to offer adequate representation at events.
o Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required.
o Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB (with or without assistance):
Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and consultants; and the ability to remain calm under stress.
RESPONSIBILITIES
o Plan, schedule and implement a program of individual and group activities based on residents’ individual needs. Including but not limited to creating a monthly activity calendar and posting calendars in resident preferred areas timely.
o Assess and complete the sections of the MDS assigned completely, timely and accurately.
o Use the resident assessment protocols (RAPs) to determine whether to proceed to care planning for concerns related to a resident’s activity program needs.
o Gather data and document required assessments.
o Identify and document in the residents’ care plan, the activity interests, needs, and concerns of the resident.
o Document and maintain an activity participation records for each resident.
o Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and attend resident care conferences.
o Provide in-service education programs and attend all in-service sessions relating to Activity Program.
o Recruit, schedule and supervise volunteers.
o Organize and schedule community events related to residents’ interests.
o Plan, schedule and implement room visits and in-room activities for residents unable to leave their rooms. Document the in-room visits
o Plan, schedule and implement activities for residents who prefer to direct their own activity program and make accessible supplies for those activities.
o Plan, schedule and implement indoor and outdoor activity programs.
o Assess needs and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs.
o Observe infection control procedures related to the Activity Program, including identification related to residents not appropriate to attend out-of-the room activity programs for health reasons.
o Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
o Follow all facility policies and procedures.
o Follow Residents Rights policies at all times.
o To perform other duties as requested by management
