JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to manage the nursing employees on a specified nursing unit (hallway or neighborhood) and assure that the area functions accordingly.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and currently licensed by the state
- Prefer not less than one (1) years previous long-term care experience
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of secondary education and must be able to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
- Leadership ability.
- Must maintain regular attendance.
- Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required.
- Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Skilled at organizing various duties.
- Must be flexible and able to handle change easily and professionally.
- Must display a willingness to continue to study, learn and implement continuously changing state and federal regulations.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Communicate with residents, families and staff in a professional and tactful manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB (with or without assistance):
Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel, vendors and consultants; ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures; and ability to remain calm under stress.
RESPONSIBILITIES
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Accepts and gives shift report
- Meets with members of the interdisciplinary team to asses, plan, coordinate and evaluate residents’ care.
- Develops work assignments for nursing assistants and other subordinate staff.
- Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge of residents.
- Makes rounds to evaluate status of residents and determine their needs Conduct resident rounds as assigned to assess the condition of each resident and report problems to the DON. Take necessary follow-up action as required.
- Use and supervise the use of supplies and equipment efficiently and in a cost-effective manner
- Be responsible for the safety of residents and employees under his/her supervision.
- Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action. Identify special nursing problems and emergency situations quickly and initiate immediate action.
- Communicates problems and needs with the nursing supervisor/designee.
- Participates in facility committees.
CLNICAL
- Follow established facility policies and procedures to provide treatment to residents in accordance with physicians’ orders.
- Assess and report changes in resident’s condition take follow-up action as necessary.
- Provide emergency care to residents when necessary.
- Perform basic nursing skills including but not limited to direct care.
- Medication administration in a timely and accurate manner. Counting narcotics. Reporting discrepancies to Director of Nursing/designee.
- Identifies and report changes in resident status to physicians, responsible family members and supervisory nursing staff.
- Participate in facility educational programs including but not limited to, orientation, ins-service and nursing assistant education.
- Assess resident needs and add to resident care plan. Review and update resident care plans as necessary and as assigned.
- Follow Residents’ Right policies at all times.
- To perform other duties as requested by management
