Sr. Accountant, Inventory Accounting

The Senior Accountant in Inventory Accounting is responsible for preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, management reporting and analysis necessary to ensure the accuracy and completeness of Sprouts Farmers Market cost of sales & inventory accounts. This position is also responsible for maintaining effective and efficient operating policies and procedures, with a focus on continuous improvement. This role is highly cross-functional and requires effective communication in collaboration and partnership with a wide variety of teams across the business to add value through data-driven financial insights.

The position reports into our Store Support Office in Phoenix, AZ. Flexible Hybrid Schedule! 

• Prepare and/or review of journal entries in accordance with Sprouts Farmers Market policies and procedures
• Prepare and/or review account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with Sprouts Farmers Market policies and procedures; review, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciling items
• Perform detailed variance analysis on assigned accounts to understand reasons for changes and help assure accuracy
• Perform transactional and financial research and analyze internal and external issues related to inventory shrink and margin including book inventory, sales, cost of goods sold, rebates, and shrink reserve; responsible for preparation of schedules and analysis that support inventory valuations
• Research variances between book and physical inventory values and work with field personnel and/or other departments to resolve inventory variances on weekly counts
• Play a hands-on role in the day-to-day inventory accounting operations and work closely with cross-functional groups to develop and maintain effective and efficient processes, procedures and policies
• Recommend, support and implement process improvements to Sprouts Farmers Market accounting processes, policies and procedures
• Adhere to Sprouts Farmers Market policies and procedures with a focus on internal controls; assist in the improvement of internal control activitie
• Create ad-hoc reports and analysis as required
• Work with internal clients to understand activities of the business units and the effects on the accounting

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Accounting; Retail/Inventory experience preferred
• Experience in Retail environment and Supply Chain knowledge preferred
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls, required
• Foundational knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using ERP software (Workday preferred) as well as an aptitude to learn other proprietary data systems
• Strong understanding and skills in analyzing and reporting financial and numeric data
• Experience interfacing and communicating across functions with operations personnel to identify, support, and execute on value-added ideas to improve profitability
• Strong verbal and written communication, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
