Job Title: Summer 2025 Mechanical Engineering Intern

Pay Range: $25-$30 an hr.

Fixed Term: 5 weeks, 40 hours/week on-site

Role Summary:

SPT Microtechnologies is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to assist our engineering team in the design and development of robot test equipment. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and engineering documentation within a dynamic and innovative environment. The ideal candidate will be a current university student or recent graduate with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and proficiency in SolidWorks.

Job Responsibilities:

• Create 3D CAD models of robot test equipment components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Conduct tolerance stack-up analyses and perform basic structural calculations.
• Develop engineering drawings, including assembly drawings, part drawings, and schematics, adhering to industry standards and company specifications.
• Assist in the design and prototyping of mechanical components for test fixtures and equipment.
• Collaborate with engineers to optimize designs for manufacturability, assembly, and performance.
• Maintain accurate and organized CAD files and documentation.
• Assist in the procurement of materials and components as needed.
• Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on design concepts.
• Support the engineering team with other tasks as assigned.
  
  

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Currently pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering degree with a focus on robotics
  
  

Required skills:

• Proficiency in SolidWorks is required.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Basic understanding of robotic systems is a plus.
• Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is a plus.
  
  

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in a standard office environment, including sitting for extended periods, using computers, and attending meetings.
• Ability to work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment, which may involve standing for extended periods, walking, and occasional lifting or carrying of light to moderate weight materials (up to 30 lbs).
• May require occasionally climbing ladders or stairs to access equipment or work areas.
