Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician provides support and maintenance to the facility and equipment used in the manufacture of parts for production, ensuring all equipment remains in top operating condition and is available to meet production needs.  Technician is responsible for diagnosing and addressing failures in machinery in accordance with the use of appropriate blueprints, schematic drawings, operator manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications. Technician will be available for fluctuating shifts and on-call work schedules where appropriate in order to respond as maintenance needs arise.  Technician will demonstrate high level of responsibility and accountability, working effectively and efficiently on assigned tasks and projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and operate machinery, equipment, and systems such as laser and  plasma cutters, CNC machining lathe and mill, press brake, industrial heating and air, electric and electronic components, hydraulic and pneumatic components,  and other department specific machines;
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment following manufacturer’s specifications to perform necessary diagnostics and repairs;
  • Consult with operators and observe, test, and evaluate operation of machinery and equipment to successfully diagnose cause of malfunction;
  • Examine parts and components for defects such as excessive wear or breakage and make necessary repairs, replacements, adjustments, and alignments;
  • Diagnose, repair, and replace electrical wiring and components;
  • Operate repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs;
  • Enter programming codes to successfully program computer-controlled machinery;
  • Demonstrate correct equipment functions and features to machine operators;
  • Record parts and materials used, ordering or requisitioning parts and materials as necessary;
  • Record all repairs and maintenance performed, providing detailed supporting documentation including instructions, drawings, and specifications related to diagnosis and repair;
  • Perform routine quality checks, preventative maintenance, seasonal maintenance, and as needed maintenance on facility and manufacturing equipment, as required by Department Supervisor to ensure proper facility and equipment operation.

Machines or Equipment Typically Operated

  • Welding machines, band saws, drill press, overhead crane, shear, grinder, hand drill, forklift amp and volt meter, PLCs, frequency drives, power hand tools;
  • Other machines and equipment specific to departmental or facility needs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of physical principles and applications of air, fluids, light, heath, electric theory, and other related phenomena; 
  • Proficient in basic shop math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division); 
  • Proficient in all types of measuring tools as required;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial machinery, parts, systems, and tools required in maintenance of manufacturing equipment; 
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, critical thinking, and analytical skills; 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.

Typical Environmental Conditions

The worker is generally subject to inside environmental conditions typical of a manufacturing environment, though certain tasks and projects may occur outside.  There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.  The environment includes a variety of physical conditions such a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and working on scaffolding or other high places. The employee may be exposed to one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation. There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
