Summary:
SpyGlass is seeking an Accounting Manager to partner with the VP of Finance in managing core accounting functions, including payroll, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, and budget oversight. As SpyGlass scales, this position will play a key role in refining financial processes to support growth. This is a high-impact, hands-on role in a pre-revenue, R&D-focused environment, ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced startups and is excited about working in a dynamic, evolving finance function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee payroll administration, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with tax regulations, and benefits accounting.
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management, ensuring efficient processes for vendor payments and expense tracking.
- Maintain and refine internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and scalability.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, partnering closely with the VP of Finance.
- Prepare financial reports and investor updates, supporting fundraising and equity-related accounting.
- Support audit and tax compliance, including coordination with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Implement and optimize financial systems and automation tools to improve efficiency.
Qualifications Required for Position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- 5-8 years of accounting experience, ideally in startups, biotech, or life sciences.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, payroll processing, and pre-revenue financial reporting.
- Experience with venture-backed startups, investor reporting, and fund tracking is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with AP, AR, payroll, tax compliance, and financial statement preparation.
- Familiarity with stock-based compensation and equity accounting.
- Proficiency with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or other accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive and adaptable mindset.
