Summary:
The Principal Engineer, New Product Development, will lead high-impact projects focused on next-generation and pipeline products. This role will collaborate with the Senior Director, R&D Engineering, and the Chief Technology Officer to define, prioritize, and execute research initiatives. The Principal Engineer will also play a key role in contributing to implantable drug delivery and intraocular lens (IOL) product development teams, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle. This position requires extensive experience in research, development, and commercialization within the medical device or pharmaceutical fields.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee research projects, including planning timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Drive innovation by conducting feasibility studies, designing prototypes, and performing risk assessments to address technical challenges.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to align project goals with business objectives, fostering seamless product development and execution.
- Define and implement verification and validation protocols, conduct testing, and analyze data to ensure process robustness and reproducibility.
- Author and review technical documentation, including design specifications, engineering drawings, test protocols, and comprehensive technical reports.
- Stay current with relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines; ensure compliance across all design and manufacturing activities.
- Serve as a technical expert and mentor to engineering teams, fostering collaboration and professional development.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including contract manufacturers and suppliers, to ensure quality outcomes.
- Present technical updates and project findings to executive leadership and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications Required For Position:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field; Ph.D. preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design, development, and commercialization of medical devices or drug delivery systems.
- Extensive experience developing ophthalmic medical products with strong knowledge of eye anatomy and physiology.
- Proven expertise in common manufacturing methods, design controls, and risk management.
- Strong proficiency in design software (e.g., SolidWorks) and statistical analysis tools.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
- Track record of collaboration in fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environments.
