Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Vice President of Development to lead our pharmaceutical development function as we continue to advance our technology. This strategic leader will be responsible for leading the advancement of our innovative drug-eluting platform through late-stage clinical development, regulatory approval, and commercialization.

The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of long-term drug delivery systems, with a proven track record of successful R&D leadership in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors. They should possess exceptional strategic planning skills, a strong ability to foster cross-functional collaboration, a demonstrated aptitude for managing complex projects and a history of driving innovation.

Key responsibilities include spearheading the R&D portfolio, managing budgets, building a high-performing team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and advancing our scientific capabilities. The Senior Vice President will work closely with the executive leadership team to shape the company's strategic direction and maintain a competitive edge in the market.

This role requires a blend of scientific expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to navigate the evolving landscape of ophthalmic therapeutics and deliver groundbreaking solutions that enhance patient outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute the overall R&D strategy, focusing on the advancement of SpyGlass Pharma’s platform for sustained ophthalmic drug delivery.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of R&D programs, focusing on sustained-release formulations, drug-device combination technologies, and future platform applications to expand the company’s portfolio.
• Lead and mentor the R&D team, comprising leaders, scientists, engineers, and technicians through pharmaceutical development.
• Plan and execute manufacturing scale-up activities for late-phase and commercial projects, ensuring readiness for regulatory approval and market entry.
• Drive innovation by identifying and implementing cutting-edge technologies to enhance SpyGlass Pharma’s R&D capabilities.
• Manage the R&D portfolio to align with corporate objectives, prioritizing high-impact projects and long-term opportunities.
  
• Develop and implement the intellectual property strategy to protect and expand the company’s technology pipeline.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Clinical teams, to ensure seamless integration of pharmaceutical activities.
• Oversee the R&D budget, allocating resources effectively to prioritize key projects and ensure efficient use of funding.
• Build and maintain relationships with KOLs, academic institutions, industry partners, and regulatory agencies.
• Represent the organization at scientific conferences and events.
• Collaborate with other senior executives to drive overall business strategy.
  

Qualifications Required For Position:

• A minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D, with at least 10 years in a leadership role overseeing drug development programs.
• Proven experience building and leading development teams focused on sustained-release formulations or ophthalmic drug delivery systems.
• Strong track record of success in progressing drug candidates through preclinical, clinical, regulatory submissions and commercialization.
• Extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical development, including FDA and EMA standards, and demonstrated success in US and EU commercialization; additional experience in other regions is preferred.
• Expertise in managing pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, including small molecules and combination products, from raw material sourcing through labeling, packaging, and distribution.
• Proven ability to engage effectively with KOLs, regulatory agencies, investors, and board members, with exceptional communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical facility design, validation, and operational excellence, with a focus on compliance and strategic execution.
• Experience with intraocular devices, especially intraocular lenses, a plus.
  
• Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic objectives while managing comprehensive budgets and operational controls in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• A Ph.D. in life sciences or engineering is preferred; an MBA is a plus.
