Spyglass Talent Solutions, a retained recruitment firm based in Raleigh, NC, has been engaged by Raleigh Concrete LLC to conduct a search for a Payroll & Compliance Specialist.

Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll & Compliance Specialist will manage payroll processing, benefits reconciliation, and employee onboarding, while also supporting general operations. This role will be instrumental in ensuring smooth HR operations, accurate financial processes, and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Responsibilities :

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Administer weekly payroll using Paylocity, including data entry, verification, and resolving discrepancies to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Process employee payroll changes, including deductions, garnishments, and tax withholding adjustments.
  • Manage benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
  • Conduct benefits reconciliation, ensuring that deductions match invoice charges and resolving discrepancies with vendors.
  • Handle employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and tax matters, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Prepare payroll-related reports, including certified payroll reports, ACA compliance filings, and year-end tax documentation (W-2s, 1095-Cs, etc.).

Accounting & General Ledger Responsibilities

  • Assist with general ledger entries, payroll-related journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring payroll-related accounts are properly recorded and reconciled.
  • Verify payroll liabilities, including tax filings, benefit payments, and retirement contributions, ensuring timely remittance.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to prepare financial reports and support financial audits.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of payroll and benefits transactions to ensure compliance with company policies and financial regulations.
  • Compliance & HR Support

  • Maintain compliance with employment laws, tax regulations, and company policies related to payroll and benefits.
  • Ensure payroll processing aligns with labor laws, FLSA, and wage and hour regulations.
  • Oversee employee onboarding related to payroll and benefits enrollment, ensuring smooth integration into company systems.
  • Assist with employee records management, including proper documentation of payroll, benefits, and tax filings.
  • Develop and update payroll and benefits policies in the employee handbook as needed.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in payroll processing, benefits administration, and accounting functions.
  • Strong understanding of payroll software systems, preferably Paylocity.
  • Experience with general ledger reconciliations, payroll-related journal entries, and month-end close processes.
  • Familiarity with employment regulations, payroll tax compliance, and benefits laws.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
