Quality Inspector- Mechanical Level 2

We are seeking a qualified Quality Mechanical Inspector in Morgan Hill, CA. This is a part-time opportunity where you will support our client at one or more supplier sites in and around Morgan Hill, 1-4 days per week. This is a 6-month to 1-year contract. This critical role requires an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of quality assurance practices. • Conduct visual, physical, and dimensional inspections (both in-process and final) of parts, per project specifications and requirements.
• Perform incoming inspections from external providers of products and services (e.g., nickel plating).
• Conduct in-process and final inspections of critical features, including witness inspections (e.g., CMM program run).
• Compile final inspection sign-off sheets and inspection packages.
• Verify that inspection equipment can detect defects and ensure inspection methodology aligns with drawing intent.
• Review and validate the justification for parts not inspected at final inspection.
• Audit and validate the execution of inspection plans as applicable.
• Document non-conformances using approved methods and submit non-conformance reports for customer disposition.
• Verify hardware cleanliness and absence of internal or external foreign object debris.
• Verify fasteners are properly installed; assure torque stripe is continuous and of correct color.
• Assure products are free of gaps, mismatches, fairing, and acceptable contour and waviness.
• Ensure products are of good workmanship and meet specified standards (e.g., oil canning, riding conditions, loose fasteners, drill starts, scratches, dings, burrs, fastener edge distance).
• Review and validate First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation, including completeness, traceability, and compliance.
• Ensure the protection and preservation of inspected products for subsequent processing and shipment.
• Verify applicable shipping documentation, including part number, serial number, configuration change letter, and shipping destination, for legibility and completeness.

• Proficiency in dimensional inspection of precision tolerance parts.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with all inspection tools.
• Ability to understand and interpret complex GD&T requirements and validate complex assemblies.
