Overview
This position is responsible for coordination between all stakeholders, consultants, construction managers, and the design team to assist the project manager on field and office assignments related to the delivery of construction projects.

Job Title: Construction Technician II
Reports to: Group Director
Duties/Responsibilities
This position may be responsible for field and office duties related to construction inspection, field documentation, office administration, and project coordination from the pre-construction phase through project closeout. Specific responsibilities include:
- Serves in a Senior Inspector or Lead Field Engineer role on projects.
- Communicate effectively and on a regular basis with internal as well as external clients and field staff, keeping all involved apprised of field progress and conditions.
- Verify the contractor’s actual activities against their planned work.
- Monitor and recommend acceptance of contractor field work that includes, but may not be limited to, excavation, placement of reinforcing steel, installation of structural steel, placement of concrete, driving pile, placement of backfill, placement of traffic control, construction of erosion control measures, building envelope, build-out of interior spaces, roofing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- On a timely basis review, prepare or recommend for approval, depending on assignment, inspector’s daily reports (IDRs and project correspondence).
- Assure that all field reporting is an accurate documentation of activities on the required forms.
- Prepare and maintain construction logs which may include Notice of Non-Conforming work (NCR), Testing and Inspection Logs, Deficiency Logs, Close-out Logs and other logs as assigned.
- Track, coordinate and prepare, depending on assignment, material inspection reports and project correspondence.
- Actively participate in progress meetings, pre-activity meetings, quality meetings or other meetings as required, depending on assignment, assist or prepare agendas and generate meeting minutes.
- Assemble and manage the collection of post construction closeout documentation.
- Maintain all project files via SharePoint, Trimble Unity Construct, or other web-based software.
- Establish and maintain client relationships.
- Other duties as required by the project, client, or SQN business needs.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with construction management, inspection, and administration with transportation or transit infrastructure.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working on local agency projects such as CTA and Metra.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and time-management skills, as well as detail-oriented.
- Effective problem-solving with ability to efficiently switch between tasks productively.
- Works with limited oversight, monitoring the progress of projects, solves challenges and ensures the project meets the client’s goals and objectives.
- Excels in managing multiple tasks, workflows, and client demands concurrently.
