SUMMARY: Performs specialized accounting work for the Tribe. This position is responsible for processing Accounts Payable. Assists the Accounts Payable Manager in performing a variety of professional accounting, fiscal transactions, periodic reports, and year end reports within accounts payable. Positions in this class are considered working level professional accounting specialists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Maintains a variety of financial ledgers, journals and records.
- Reviews, verifies, corrects, balances and summarizes data on a variety of financial ledgers, journals and records. Processes invoices and vouchers for payment on a weekly basis.
- Complete data entries and submit unpasted report to A/P Manager for review.
- Reconciles vendor statements and maintains vendor files. Verifies vendor information such as current address and/or remittance address.
- Post batches for the week, print check registers, and unpasted general ledger reports Print, distribute, and file vendor checks weekly.
- Records encumbrances and encumbrance liquidations.
- Checks supporting documents, prices and extensions. Verifies account codes, authorized signatures, and description of goods or services.
- Establishes and maintains files, records, and other information to meet specific needs. Searches records, compiles and reconciles and classifies information.
- Reviews and analyzes financial data for trends or anomalies. Processes calendar year reporting of IRS Forms 1099.
- Initiates, examines and takes routine action on various management and accounting documents, such as: records, vouchers, requisitions, contracts, forms or applications where specific procedural guidelines must be met.
- Operates equipment such as copier, computer, printer, typewriter, calculator and fax machine. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree with major study in accounting or a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting and two years of professional accounting or auditing experience; OR Associate of Arts Degree with major study in accounting with a
minim um of 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting and four years of professional accounting or auditing experience; OR High School graduation or GED and six years of professional accounting experience providing 20 semester or 30 quarter hours of college-level accounting are achieved.
Accounts Payable and automated accounting system experience is desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form.

This job entails a lot of close up reading, interpreting, and keying. Focus must shift easily from that surface to computer screen and vice versa.
