Resource Technician 2 On-Call

SUMMARY: Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties and assists in various technical fieldwork associated with the Natural Resources Department. Operates natural resource equipment, including boats, trucks, etc. This position requires the successful applicant to occasionally work weekends, holidays, and after hours. This level is considered to be an entry-level technician. This position is an on-call position; schedule and hours depend on availability of work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Assists in feeding fish, pulling and cleaning nets.
• Assist with smolt trapping, commercial sampling, and stream surveys.
• Assist with shellfish field tasks and data collection.
• Perform other Natural Resource Department duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Washington State Driver’s License, Current Boaters certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently required to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally required to work in high, precarious places; and around vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Most of the job duties will be required to perform outdoors in all types of weather. Also must be comfortable being able to work in and around open waters.

OTHER: This position will be required to occasionally work weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate of Arts Degree in Natural Resources or a closely related field OR High School Diploma/GED and three years of Natural Resources experience or experience in a closely related field OR 4 years of relevant Natural Resources experience.
