Squid's Rod Shop (originally operated as Rutter's Rod Shop, Inc.) has been a professional builder of street rods, classics, customs, and muscle cars since 1998. Located in Hickory, NC, our 7000 square foot air conditioned facility has all the necessary equipment to offer customers everything from small repairs to complete street rod builds. We employ a small team of talented hot-rod-savvy individuals with expertise in all aspects of custom car building including disassembly, frame building, design, fabrication, installation and repair, plus body and paint.
Street Rod Technician Job Description
Duties:
- Responsible for all mechanical work for customer car builds including wiring, plumbing, air conditioning, chassis, suspension, powertrain (late model & classic), & mechanical troubleshooting.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a professional automotive technician role in the motorsports or custom automotive aftermarket. We are not hiring for an entry level position at this time.
- Experience with professional aftermarket wiring required
- Experience working with performance aftermarket automotive systems
- Knowledge of tuning/troubleshooting/swapping traditional and modern powertrains required
- Experience with MIG & TIG welding and metal fabrication is a plus
- Basic machinist skills (mill & lathe) are also a plus
- Knowledge of custom car build process and parts suppliers
- Attention to detail
- Strong problem solving skills
- Self motivated
- Team player
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

The applicant must be willing to show references from the automotive aftermarket or motorsports industry and a portfolio of finished projects. Competitive pay is to be determined based on experience, skill level, and education in the field. This is an hourly position. Forty hours/week, Monday through Thursday.
