Job Summary:
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that the building and surrounding areas are in good working condition. This includes performing a variety of tasks related to building repairs, maintenance, and upkeep, with a focus on both preventative and corrective maintenance. The Maintenance Worker will address repair needs promptly to ensure a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environment for employees and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine Maintenance & Inspections:
Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) to ensure proper operation and detect potential issues.
- Repairs & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and repair issues with equipment, machinery, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, and heating/cooling systems.
Fix leaks, replace light bulbs, and handle small electrical and plumbing tasks.
- Preventative Maintenance:
Perform scheduled maintenance on systems and equipment to avoid breakdowns.
Lubricate machinery, clean filters, replace worn parts, and adjust settings.
- Cleaning & General Upkeep:
Maintain cleanliness of public areas, offices, and grounds, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
Remove trash and debris, and handle outdoor maintenance (e.g., snow removal, lawn care).
- Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all work is done safely and in compliance with local codes and regulations.
Report hazards and safety concerns to the supervisor.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Inventory Management:
Keep track of maintenance supplies and equipment.
Order necessary parts and materials for repairs, as needed.
- Emergency Repairs:
Respond to emergency maintenance requests during and after hours, including equipment failures, leaks, and other urgent issues.
- Collaboration:
Work with other team members, contractors, and vendors to complete larger or specialized repairs.
Communicate maintenance activities and status to supervisors or department heads.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in maintenance or a related field (e.g., building maintenance, facilities management).
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor (e.g., lifting, standing for long periods).
- Willingness to work outside normal hours when necessary, including weekends or evenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing.
- Previous experience in a commercial or industrial maintenance setting.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to maintenance work.
Working Conditions:
- Indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying temperatures.
- Some heavy lifting and physical tasks may be required.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
- Occasional on-call or overtime work to address urgent maintenance needs.
