Job Description:
A Fiber Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic cables and related equipment. They work with network infrastructure to ensure reliable and high-speed internet, television, and telephone services. Their duties involve splicing fiber cables, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, test, and maintain fiber optic cables and related network components.
- Perform fiber splicing, termination, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient connectivity.
- Identify and repair fiber optic cable faults using specialized tools and equipment.
- Conduct site surveys to assess fiber cable routing and installation needs.
- Work with manufacturing engineers and other technicians to optimize system performance.
- Interpret and update blueprints and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company regulations.
- Document installation and repair work for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
- Knowledge of fiber optic technology, splicing, and testing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work procedures (SOPS)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience using fiber tools such as fusion splicers, Visual scopes, interferometers, polishers and power meters.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree or certification in a related field (preferred).
- Fiber optic technician certification (e.g., FOA, CFOT) is a plus.
- Previous experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, or network cabling is preferred.
- May work in commercial or industrial settings.
