Title: QA/QC Manager – ASME/Industrial Code Program
Location: SSM Industries Inc., Pittsburgh
Position Status: Full Time
SSM Industries is seeking a dynamic individual to manage the implementation of our ASME/Industrial QA/QC program. This role is based in Pittsburgh, PA with occasional travel and may involve part-time on-site presence for select projects.
This position reports overall to the President with additional daily involvement with internal division managers.
Successful candidate will be involved with projects from start to finish, and will represent SSM in a highly professional manner.
This position requires someone who is highly motivated, high performing, and passionate about continuous improvement. QA/QC Manager works with estimating, fabrication, project management as well as customer team and AI.

The work we do and how we do it requires the QA/QC Manager to be intimately involved in the design, fabrication, inspection and testing process.

The SSM QA/QC Manger for the Industrial/ASME Code Program is responsible for the following functions and duties including, but not limited to:
Responsibilities
· Monitor weld procedures or ASME code requirements, to verify compliance with company, customer, and code specifications.
· Inspect welded sub-assemblies and assemblies at designated points of the manufacturing process for ASME hold points.
· Maintain compliance to ASME weld procedures and train shop foreman and your direct reports in QC measurements, weld procedures, materials traceability and all other ASME documentation requirements including shop traveler generation and various different data reports that our vessels require. POC for collaborating with AI inspectors for code jobs.
· Maintain all quality records for the Company.
· Perform visual and mechanical inspection of products in accordance with company and customer drawings for the different ASME BPVC sections, code requirements and/or engineering blueprints.
· Conduct both onsite and offsite factory acceptance test (FAT) to customer specified QC documents.
· Participate in tri-annual review of ASME stamp certifications – R, S, U
· Partner with the drafting/design department to review (and correct) all shop fabrication drawings before they are released to the floor.
· Prepare and maintain various ASME QC records both for fabricated equipment as well as ASME documentation for our welding staff (e.g. WPS, PQR, and weld qualification testing, and continuity records) including responding to supplier/customer corrective action, and respond to non-conformances, either internally generated or customer generated.
· Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, vendors and office staff to review quality problems and insure problem-free production.
· Communicate with customer contacts and vendors

Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering or technical degree from four-year college or university OR have significant work experience in manufacturing, welding, metal fabrication, and machining experience
· CWI is highly encouraged
· 3 years of experience in working with Quality systems, programs, audits and procedures.
· 5 years in the fabrication and / or manufacturing industries
· In depth knowledge of ASME and AWS codes
· Knowledgeable in ASME inspection process - incoming inspection, material certification and marking requirements and in-process inspection
· ASME Knowledge in code sections for hydrostatic testing, and be able to generate ASME records (required data reports, shop travelers, etc.)
· Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and verify or add weld symbols and finish callouts
· Ability to use measurement instruments, including pressure gauges, calipers, micrometers, and weld reinforcement gauges.
· Ability to verify completeness and accuracy of the information recorded.
· Ability to work, schedule and interact with Authorized ASME Inspections and present documents for their review, sign-off, etc.
· Ability to adapt to a variety of unique projects constructed out of pipe, plate, and sheet metal.
· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers and departments including customers regarding testing procedures and results to resolve problems.
· Must be a self-starter who has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficient in relevant software and must be highly proficient in Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
· Primary work location is SSM fabrication shop with occasional local travel to various plants and construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledege and working experience with ASME B31.1, B31.3, Section VIII, Section I, Section XI, and AWS D1.1, D1.3, D9.1, and D1.6
· CWI
· Experience in ASME Pressure vessel repairs and alterations
· Ability to read, understand, and implement requirements found in ASME and AWS codes.

Physical Demands
- Employee must be physically able to perform job requirements in shop and construction site settings, and negotiating all hazards associated with walking and performing their work in such sites, including but not limited to climbing ladders, wearing all appropriate safety equipment, walking on uneven surfaces, working in all types of weather, lifting up to 40 pounds.
