The Medical Director provides occupational health services to support the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's (BEP) Health Unit (HU). The Medical Director is pivotal in overseeing a comprehensive health program that delivers high-quality medical services, health education, and ensures compliance with occupational health regulations. The Medical Director will embody Cayuse's Core Values by fostering a culture of safety, wellness, and proactive health management.

  • Serve as the Medical Director and as a consultant to BEP management on all matters regarding occupational medicine and other matters outlined herein.
  • Provide clinical medicine services, involving the performance of diagnostic and preventive health care, including physical examination and emergency treatment, as appropriate, as well as preventive health screening programs, occupational health surveillance examinations, health counseling, etc.
  • Provide consultative services including but not limited to, management consultation, training, education, evaluation of unusual event exposures, American for Disabilities Act consultation, workers' compensation or disability case review and medical fit-for-duty evaluations.
  • Evaluate and render opinions regarding the medical aspects of fitness-for-duty exams as needed.
  • On occasion, conduct peer-to-peer phone calls for work and non-work-related illnesses and injuries to advise of the agency’s Light and Limited duty program. The Medical Director will assess medical for work and non-work-related illnesses and injuries to determine if the agency may be able to offer the employee a Light and Limited duty assignment.
  • Evaluate health services provided by the BEPHU, and make recommendations about changes in service, as appropriate.
  • Provide medical and administrative support, as appropriate, to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) staff in connection with the BEP EAP (i.e. for alcohol abuse, drug abuse,
  • emotional stress, etc.).
  • Serve as a member of BEP committees formed to determine BEP policy that may require input from the Medical Director.
  • Draft articles related to occupational health in the EHS Newsletter.
  • Draft policies, guidelines, and procedures, and/or review and comment on existing policies and procedures as needed.
  • Accompany a nurse on all emergency calls outside of the Health Unit.
  • Work with web-based computer systems, Occupational Health and Safety software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Monitor all mailboxes relating to health concerns declared by local, state, and/or federal Government for the Washington DC (DCF) and Fort Worth, TX (WCF) Facilities. This includes responding to questionnaires, via email and phone calls.
  • On occasion, review DCF workers' compensation claims and medical documentation.
  • Approve paperwork for fitness center applications.
  • Review and approve paperwork for physicals.
  • Review audiograms, determine work -elatedness of hearing loss, follow-up work-related hearing loss, and manage audiometric databases.
  • Review and interpret spirometry tests (Pulmonary Function Test).
  • Write prescriptions for employees covered by this contract.
  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol.
  • Maintain work area, exam rooms, and supplies.
  • Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
  • Attend meetings as requested.
  • Follow all BEP policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to employer work practices as described in Cayuse policies.
  • Perform additional reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Have adequate background and knowledge in the prevention of occupational diseases.
  • Certified in occupational health or have 3-5 years experience in occupational health.
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Washington DC area (DC, MD, and VA),
  • Occupational Medicine Board Certification.
  • Active Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) certificate.
  • Active National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Spirometry (NIOSH) certificate.
  • Proficiency in use of the EKG and must be proficient in the interpretation of any other test provided in the Health Unit or referred out by the Health Unit.
  • Must be able to suture.
  • Credit Check is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
