Sam Schwartz Pedestrian Traffic Management Services, Inc. (SSPTMS) is on a mission to inspire hope, power, and potential. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in NYC, SSPTMS is a pioneer in elite traffic management solutions throughout the United States.
Our firm was developed by Sam Schwartz (famously known as “Gridlock Sam”), a pioneer in traffic engineering and management. Sam is a recognized traffic expert with over 40 years’ experience in the public and private sectors, even having served as New York City’s Traffic Commissioner in the 1980s. Sam is also a regular contributor to the New York Times and Queens Chronicle.
SSPTMS primary services the entire New York City metropolitan area, but our services are used throughout the United States (including but not limited to Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida, and Washington D.C.) and are ever-expanding.
Job Description
New York City’s leading traffic safety organization is seeking experienced, certified traffic Flaggers and other traffic safety professionals for work in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the greater New York City area. Current jobs in need of staffing include (but are not limited to):
· Barclays Center (Brooklyn)
· UBS Arena (Queens)
· Red Bulls Arena (Harrison, NJ)
· JFK Airport (Queens)
· LaGuardia Airport (Queens)
Additional work, including the potential for steady part-time work, is available throughout NYC for those able and willing to travel.
Our assignments are entirely outdoors, and we work in all weather conditions, including rain and snow. Uniform and equipment materials, including a t-shirt, vest, hat, sweatshirt/jacket (seasonal), and lighted baton are provided. You must only provide your own pants and footwear in accordance with our uniform and dress policy.
Please be professional in appearance, punctual, reliable and have effective interpersonal and communication skills. A smartphone is required for onboarding, scheduling, timekeeping, and communication purposes.
Responsibilities:
- Direct motor and pedestrian traffic in a safe and secure manner.
- Ensure exemplary performance, quality, and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with a team to define and execute client requirements.
- Uphold company standards and policies.
- Work with integrity, readiness, and a willingness to succeed.
· Facilitate the smooth, secure flow of traffic in high-volume areas.
· Understand and apply safe traffic control practices.
· Stop, hold, and release traffic while working with traffic control devices and other traffic professionals in the area.
· Control signaling devices such as flags, paddles, cones, and pedestrian chains.
· Watch for unsafe pedestrian and driver behavior(s).
· Be aware of changing work, traffic, and weather conditions.
· Receive and communicate instructions clearly, firmly, and courteously.
· Assist pedestrians and motorists with directions and information concerning activity in the area.
Requirements:
- Flagger certification
- OSHA-30 (Construction Safety & Health) certification
- Site Safety Training (SST) Card
- At least one (1) year of prior traffic management experience
· Professional in appearance, punctual, reliable and have effective interpersonal communication skills.

Those hired for this position are not expected to consistently work 30 or more hours per week; however, some weeks may result in 30-40 working hours, depending on our business needs. No specific hours, locations or tour assignment are ever guaranteed.

Medical, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits are offered to those who maintain an average of thirty (30) or more hours worked per week over the course of a 12-month period. 401(k) benefits are offered to employees over twenty-one (21) years of age who work for at least six (6) months and work at least 1,000 hours.
