Description

The South Shore YMCA is seeking a Director of Gymnastics to join our exciting and growing team of YMCA professionals. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, in this role, the Director of Gymnastics develops, organizes, and implements safe, high quality, member-focused YMCA gymnastics programs and drives the management of the Gymnastics Facility, gymnastics staff and various programs offered within the department. This role works closely with the branch leadership team to provide an exceptional member experience through programming, events, and community activities. The Director of Gymnastics also plays a key role in the department's front-line operations and will take part in presenting programming in their department. This exciting role includes work within the guidelines of the governing body – USA Gymnastics and YMCA of the USA Gymnastics guidelines. Additionally, YMCA of the USA programming and community engagement, safety, collaboration, and creativity to propel a growing gymnastics program is key.

 

CORE EXPECTATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
    • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA goals.
    • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community following strategic and operating plans.
    • Monitors daily facility operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including keeping safety ratios of staff.
    • Some weekend work
    • Ensure that the gymnastics facility meets all health and safety standards including a clean environment, proper air. Secure gymnastics facility when not in use. Advise supervisor of safety and repair needs and concerns at once.
    • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
    • All other duties as assigned or needed.
  • STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
    • Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, schedules, and directs full time and part time staff and volunteers as needed, through scheduling, in-service training, and communication.
    • Reviews and evaluates staff performance regularly.
    • Develops strategies to motivate staff.
    • Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Conducts safety, certification, and in-service training for staff.
    • Attend and be an active participant at all staff functions, including bi-weekly Director’s meetings.
    • Assist in other program areas as needed and as time permits, keeping in mind that Gymnastics is still the primary area of responsibility.
  • MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
    • Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Actively creates an information flow to members and program participants about branch events and association campaigns.
    • Creates a safe and supportive community environment, aids in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause through volunteerism, donation, or community events.
    • Actively aid with program registration periods, checking registrations and communicating with members, participants and membership staff for updates.
    • Engage in active listening with members to build relationships, understand everyone's goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
  • BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
    • Plans and manages department budgets as approved in a fiscally responsible manner.
    • Responsible for prompt and correct payroll for the department.
    • Management of proposing orders and budget for staff uniforms, equipment, and other material needs of the department.
  • FACILITY MANAGEMENT
    • Works with proper branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.
    • Conducts, advises and ensures proper maintenance of gymnastics facilities by communicating with supervisor and Maintenance Director.
    • Secures and schedules gym facility.
    • Provide leadership and support in the development and implementation of the building Emergency Action Plan and safety, including staff training in CPR, and First Aid
  • VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
    • Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility through engaging and meeting new members and program participants, branch and association events, and community engagement.
  • COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT
    • Assists in YMCA fund-raising activities/events and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations, staff and program participants to strengthen support and build community.

Qualifications


  • 3-5 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience specifically with competitive coaching and gymnastic instruction
  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and members.
  • Effective coaching/teaching skills that follow YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Possess gymnastics certifications as applicable to competitive or recreational programming
  • Proven fund-raising success.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University preferred; physical education/sports & leisure/recreation management.

 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee must regularly stand; swim in the pool, walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally sit, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
