The South Shore YMCA Nature Center is dedicated to providing natural science education and experiences that energize, excite and commit all generations to appreciate and preserve the environment and our natural resources.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The receptionist serves as the first point of contact for visitors and callers. They play an important role creating a welcoming environment and contributing to smooth operations of daily activities.

STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, members, potential members and program participants are important to this position.
MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Welcome, greet and engage all members, visitors, and programs participants focusing on their safety, needs, and enrichment.
Represent the YMCA and interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner in person, via email, and over the phone.
Build relationships with and among members.
Provide up to date information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies of the YMCA.
Assist with program registrations, payments, and waitlists, using program registration software.
Take messages and/or direct calls to the appropriate department or individual, as needed.
Handle incoming and mail, packages, and deliveries.
Monitor entry/exit of guests from building. Follow emergency procedures and provide assistance during emergencies.
Attendance must be reliable and consistent.
PROGRAM AND EVENT SUPPORT
Book rentals of Nature Center spaces in coordination with Nature Center Director. Occasionally staff rentals outside of regularly scheduled shifts. Assist with set-up and clean-up of spaces before and after rentals.
Assist with administrative tasks and event support, including prepping program materials, and other tasks as needed.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Maintain a clean and organized front desk and lobby. Ensure the lobby, reception area, Vine Hall, EcoZone, and bathrooms are clean, organized, and well-presented.
Follow up on any issues brought to desk regarding facility or grounds.
Contribute to care of greenhouse and gardens, as needed and requested by Director.
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT
Assist in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engage in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.

Previous experience in a receptionist or administrative role preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational abilities.
Proficiency in office software and equipment (e.g., Microsoft Office, phone systems).
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
