Overview
The Assistant Principal for Student Affairs at St. Andrew Catholic School functions as part of an administrative team and is responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of the implementation of the school's mission. The Assistant Principal acts in the capacity of the principal in the principal's absence or at his/her request. The Assistant Principal of Student Affairs is directly responsible for issues relating to student life at St. Andrew Catholic School including Sunrise and Sunset Programs, Home & School programs, student discipline, as well as overseeing the supervision of school activities, both during the day and after school hours. This is a supervisory position and does include evaluation of teachers.
Job Responsibilities
- Sustains and strengthens the mission of St. Andrew Catholic School and the philosophy of Catholic education.
- Oversees the implementation and enforcement of policies, procedures and guidelines affecting student life, especially discipline and the Honor Code. Amends and maintains the Student Handbook accordingly with the approval of the Principal.
- Creates, implements, evaluated, and adjusts a comprehensive plan for school safety and emergency procedures and makes recommendations to the Principal for improvements.
- Consults with local law enforcement, emergency personnel and other experts in order to best prepare the school community for emergencies and critical incidents.
- Monitors student conduct during the school day, at assemblies and liturgies, and at school-sponsored activities.
- Determines the issuing of demerits, school suspensions and additional disciplinary action for offenses not specifically addressed by the Student Handbook in a manner that is reasonable and consistent.
- Meets with students and/or parents to address disciplinary concerns.
- Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of student disciplinary records.
- Generates letters to be sent to parents as a result of disciplinary probation and monitors students on disciplinary probation.
- Coordinates the random drug-screening program.
- Supervise hallway traffic during school hours and approves a system for hall passes.
- Keeps records of student accidents and injuries.
- Assists with the creation and implementation of a comprehensive plan for school safety and emergency procedures and makes recommendations to the Principal for improvements.
- Supervises the School Nurse and monitors attendance policies and procedures.
- Monitors student attendance and makes disciplinary decisions including academic failures for excessive absences/tardies.
- Recommends enrollment status for current students placed on disciplinary probation.
- Assists the Principal in the selection and hiring of new Teachers.
- Co-advise Intermediate and Middle School Focus Group.
- Completes all STREAM observations, including pre & post observation conferences, of assigned teachers for the year. Completes one STREAM observation per quarter.
- Serves as a Facilitator on the FCC Accreditation Leadership Team and assists with Domain
- Assist with student supervision during the school day as needed and/or chaperone on field
- Assist daily with Morning Drop-off and Afternoon Dismissal.
- Assumes other duties as delegated by the Principal.
- Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
- Must hold a valid Florida State Educational Leadership Certificate.
- Previous teaching and administrative experience required.
