Duties & Responsibilities
The Athletic Trainer will be expected to:
- Establish a working relationship with school nursing staff
- Complete, evaluate, and review school policies related to health and safety procedures
- Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures
- Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school systems regulations, as well as state laws
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training services at Upper School for large events
- Coordinate and provide athletic training services for all home Middle School athletic contests (Coordinate for MS events @ US)
- Travel to away/coordinate coverage for Middle School football games
- Act as a liaison between physicians, school administrators, athletes and their parents at Middle School and Upper School level
- Administer first aid and emergency care for acute injuries and illnesses
- Coordinate, plan, and implement rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries
- Oversee concussion protocol and review annually at the middle school level
- Provide the coaches and Athletic Director with a list of athletes eligible to compete each season
- Coordinate baseline SportGait testing for students in grades 6th-8th
- Assist the Athletic Director as requested
- Maintain AED’s & perform inspections
- Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical conditions. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: Should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision
EDUCATION: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Must be BOC certified and possess Texas athletic training licensure
Other Requirements
- CPR & AED certification
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to collaborate, effectively communicate, and work independently
- Mobility, strength, visual and auditory acuity adequate for immediate response to athlete’s needs
- Must be able to work in outdoor conditions all year long. Lifting to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, and stooping on a daily basis.
