Description
Objective: To assist in instructing students and support the lead teacher.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with this instruction of differentiated individual and small group lessons utilizing a variety of methods and techniques to accommodate different learning styles.
- Prepare, administer, and grade student assignments.
- Manage student behavior appropriately and effectively perform classroom management techniques.
- Engage students in the learning process and provide timely feedback to students.
- Prepare instructional materials such as lesson materials, bulletin boards, exhibits, and equipment.
- Confer with the lead teacher on the progress of students.
- Assist in the coordination of classroom related activities and events that support the grade-level or subject specific curriculum.
- Support the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of each student’s performance and progress.
- Perform supervisory duties such as lunch, recess, co-curricular, and carpool duties.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional school environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms above the head and reach forward. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type:
This is a full-time position with teaching responsibilities from August – May. As with any independent school, faculty should be ready to chaperone class trips, perform typical day-to-day duties such as lunch and carpool duties, and engage fully in all school events that develop the student.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with students required.
- Knowledge of grade-level appropriate teaching methodology.
- Experience with Responsive Classroom preferred.
- Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.
- Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians.
- Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite required.
