St. Andrew’s Community Resource Center, a ministry of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, seeks to transform lives through Christ’s love by equipping families and individuals with resources that lead to housing and employment stability.
We are currently seeking a dependable and caring Family Shelter Associate for St. Andrew’s Family Shelter, located in Hugo, Minnesota. The Family Shelter Associate is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for families experiencing homelessness and working with the shelter team to provide coverage of required staff hours.
The position is expected to work 18 hours per week.
Work schedule:
- Sundays 8:30am-2:30pm
- Wednesdays 2:30-8:30pm
- Thursdays 2:30-8:30pm
- Some holidays are required
- Additional hours may occasionally be available
Interviews will be held at St. Andrew's Community Resource Center within St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, MN. Occasional/Minimal travel to St. Andrew's Campus in Mahtomedi, MN will be required if hired.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming, safe environment for families experiencing homelessness
- Provide hospitality and welcome
- Enforce shelter policies and procedures with guests and volunteers
- Perform light cleaning of shelter common areas
- Perform light cooking independently
- Update and utilize technology for scheduling and communication purposes
- Train and orient volunteers
- Other duties as requested or assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in nonprofit community-based programs serving families in poverty and crisis
- Lived experience of economic crisis
- Experience using basic office equipment/technology
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Comfortable working in a Christian environment

- Ability to be creative and flexible in responding to changing priorities and emerging needs
- Working knowledge of the causes and impacts of living in poverty
- Skill in recognizing and maintaining confidential information

- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner
- Ability to utilize Google Docs, Excel, and online sign-up platforms
- Basic cooking and cleaning skills
- Skill in basic office administration work
- Knowledge of the Christian faith
