The Director of Girls Basketball and Varsity Head Coach is a member of the St. Andrew’s Athletics Department and reports to the Athletic Director. The Head Coach is responsible for the complete design, implementation, and management of the entire program, in alignment with the school’s mission. In addition to coaching and developing players, the program head coach will also be responsible for providing leadership and organization for all players, teams, and coaches within their program. The coach will always represent their program, the Athletics department, and St. Andrew’s School in a positive manner. The coach will work to build and grow the program from Lower School to Middle School to High School. The coach will possess the qualities necessary to lead and develop players and teams in a professional manner while modeling good sportsmanship. The coach will provide support and assist players who aim to play at the collegiate level. The coach will assist with admissions by representing the Girls Basketball program and the Athletics Department within the community and at admissions events. Teaching assignments will be dependent upon the candidate’s experience and the open positions at the school.

Position Functions & Tasks
- Responsible for the complete oversight of the Girls Basketball program.
- Provides student-athletes an organized and supportive team environment where each player has the opportunity to enjoy a positive athletics experience.
- Creates an environment where players can learn, grow, and develop as student-athletes and people while learning valuable life lessons.
- Creates positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, coaches, and administrators.
- Assists with the retention of student-athletes and actively participates as an admissions advocate for St. Andrew’s School.
- Actively participates in the identification, hiring, and supervision of all program coaches. Supports program coaches and teams through being a ready resource and a leadership presence at all levels.
- Engages in professional development and growth. Utilizes current and best practices with teaching and coaching.
- Assists with uniform and equipment orders, and inventory.
- Participates in scheduling, planning, and travel arrangements for away competitions.
- Assists with team budget planning and management as needed.
- Organizes practice plans and runs high quality, efficient, and productive practice sessions.
- Organizes and manages the annual girls basketball calendar including in season, preseason, and summer training.
- Watches and breaks down film to utilize as a teaching tool for the players/teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in education. Master’s degree preferred.
- Coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred; head coaching experience preferred; independent school coaching experience preferred.
- Ability to provide personalized, positive, and constructive feedback to players, and to make in game adjustments as needed, to position the team to be as successful as possible on the court.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team in the Athletics Department.
