Lower School Teacher
Grade 4 ELA
St. Andrew’s is an independent, college preparatory school located in Savannah, GA. Serving grades PreK3 – Grade 12, the school operates in a divisional model. The Lower School at St. Andrew’s serves students in grades PreK3 – Grade 4. With a student centered model as their foundation, St. Andrew’s teachers are dedicated to a 21 Century pedagogy and are comfortable integrating a purposeful level of technology and project based learning in their classrooms to support instruction. Grade levels consist of two homeroom sections that rotate between a Math/Science/Social Studies and an ELA content teacher. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops curriculum materials and contributes to ongoing curriculum mapping. Participates with a grade level partner in the development of course pacing, instructional materials, and daily schedule.
- Is responsible for, and carries out, all aspects associated with teaching the assigned grade and subject areas.
- Participates in the grade level, divisional, curricular, and school-wide professional development meetings expected, illustrating a strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community.
- Delivers instruction with a recognition of, and responsiveness to, a variety of learning styles. Fosters a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking and communication, with a value placed on growth-mindset to achieve each student’s highest academic potential.
- Ensures student behavior is reflective of the St. Andrew’s school mission and student handbook.
- Exhibits a commitment to the school community beyond the daily teaching assignment through other duties as assigned or personally identified.

Qualifications
- A bachelor degree (masters preferred) in elementary education or a closely related field.
- Two years of classroom teaching experience are strongly preferred, with exceptions granted for outstanding candidates with demonstrated teaching skill and talent.
- A preference for candidates with knowledge of, and/or experience working in, an independent school environment.
- A willingness to collaboratively teach in a team model with responsibility for the English Language Arts subject area.
- A preference for candidates with a demonstrated proficiency related to the science of reading and curricular approaches including Orton Giligham, Heggerty Phonics, and a workshop model for writing instruction.
- Demonstrated involvement in professional development and school community engagement beyond the daily classroom assignment.
