S.T.A.R. Programs is a non-profit agency that provides residential care to youth (ages 16-17) and young adults (ages 18-21) in the foster care, juvenile justice system, and refugee foster care system. S.T.A.R. Programs is committed to providing safe and inclusive residential programs with guidance and support for adolescents and young adults to build and practice their independent living skills. Our staff work directly with the youth and young adults to provide structure, supervision, behavior management, and support.
Description
S.T.A.R. Programs is a non-profit agency that provides residential care to young adults (ages 18-24) who are displaced and do not have a stable place to live. S.T.A.R. is committed to providing a safe place in order to help our young adults rebuild and strengthen their futures by providing a continuum of care including connecting them to mental health services, independent living skills, educational, and recreational services. We are looking for individuals who have a lot of energy, patience, and enjoy working in a fast paced environment!
The YHDP Housing Specialist must have a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning and housing, or social or behavioral science and at least one year of experience with property management, locating housing opportunities and working with property managers. Knowledge of Housing First, Positive Youth Development, and Trauma Informed Care models are preferred. Lived experience is preferred. This is a full time position and will require participation in an on-call rotation.
Position Requirements
Qualifications for these positions include but are not limited to :
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Bachelor's Degree with a major focus of Urban Planning and housing. Or Bachelor's Degree in a Social or Behavioral Science
- Have a background in reality or housing people with housing insecurity
- Ability to pass a through background check
- Possess a valid driver's license for at least 5 years and a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a TB test
- Familiar with standards and procedures of property management
- Case Management experience with navigating the housing market
- Experience in working with various young adults who are overrepresented in the homeless population that derive from different cultural, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds or sexual identity.
- Skill set in mediation and negotiation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and have strong interpersonal and listening skills.
