JOB TITLE : Certified Medication Technician
DEPARTMENT : Nursing
REPORTS TO : Director of Nursing
SUMMARY : To ensure the quality care of residents by preparing and administering proper medication and by assisting in resident care, as necessary. Be able to provide excellence in customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Understand the importance of customer service and be willing to learn resident / relative satisfaction techniques. Communicate effectively and appropriately with residents, family members and other team members.
- Must maintain a positive work environment.
- Take report from previous shift and complete report for following shift.
- Administer prescribed medications to residents.
- Pass all ordered PRN medications when working in the assisted living unit only.
- Pass oral, topical, ophthalmic and inhalation medications.
- Document all medication administered to residents.
- Conduct narcotic counts regularly as directed.
- Re-order medications as needed.
- Notify pharmacy and / or nursing supervisor of any potential problem.
- Note changes in residents’ conditions and report them to the charge nurse or physician when in charge capacity.
- Assume supervisory role in absence of the charge nurse as directed.
- Assume responsibility for getting ice and passing ice and water to residents.
- Assist with passing trays.
- Assist in feeding residents.
- Pass and chart nourishments.
- Clean the medication cart and medication room.
- Receive and store medication from pharmacy.
- Test resident’s blood to determine glucose levels when they are not insulin dependent as directed.
- Assist in resident care as needed.
- Assist CNAs with special assignments.
- Answer call lights.
- Assist in the turning and positioning of residents if indicated.
- Physician orders taken by CMT must be co-signed by licensed nurse.
- Properly take care of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of your service area and perform regular inspections of these areas for proper sanitation, order, and safety.
- Use equipment and supplies efficiently.
- Report all grievances and complaints made by a resident to the charge nurse immediately.
- Adhere to all established policies and procedures of the facility.
- Attend Care Plan conferences as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements : QUALIFICATIONS :
This position requires an ability to safely lift and transfer residents weighing an average of 150 pounds with or without assistance, on an occasional basis; and an ability to push residents in wheelchairs up to 250 pounds on a frequent basis approximately 100 feet.
Certifications, Licenses Necessary
This position requires certification as a medication technician in the state of Missouri.
