What are the responsibilities and job description for the History Teacher position at St Andrews School Of Delaware Inc?
The St. Andrews history department believes that the skills of the historian are, in fact, the skills of the citizen. Therefore, we strive to empower students to do the authentic work of the discipline, focusing on the development of their historical thinking skills through primary source analysis. We are especially interested in candidates who have training and expertise in multiple areas of history, and are therefore able to teach our established 9th grade American History course, and to design and teach new semester-long, upper-Form elective courses that broaden and deepen the offerings of the department. In applying to join this creative and collegial department, candidates should show a lively interest in pedagogy, collaboration, current historical scholarship, and professional development. Our curriculum engages original material that raises important, contested questions, and our students bring many backgrounds and experiences to bear in the exploration of these questions. Candidates must demonstrate skill in encouraging difficult conversation and fostering expressive freedom in the service of learning and inquiry.
The position will also involve full participation in the extracurricular and student life programs of this residential community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Four class sections;
- Two seasons of athletic coaching or two seasons of a major, non-athletic extracurricular program;
- Dormitory duty once or twice a week;
- Weekend duty once every four weekends;
- Participation in school committees and activities;
- Adhere to the schools dress code.
Skills and experience:
- Interested candidates should have a Bachelor of Arts degree in history or a closely related field; teaching experience is beneficial but not required.
- Candidates must have a passion for working with and living in community with adolescents.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or canceled, or disqualified from driving).
- Candidates with the experience to coach any of our sports programs will be given strong consideration in this search. More specifically, we have coaching openings in football, basketball, field hockey, squash, crew, volleyball, and tennis. Candidates with these qualifications should highlight them in their application materials.
