Job Description
- TITLE: Counselor- Residential
- SUPERVISOR: Program Manager
- HOURS PER WEEK: _____ hours, includes days, afternoons, evenings and
weekends
- QUALIFICATIONS: BA or BS in field of Human Services preferred; two years
in related area required. Experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
- FUNCTIONS: To create a safe and secure environment that helps girls in
residence gain self-control and develop positive social skills.
- RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for daily implementation of agency practices including policies, procedures, unit routine and expectations, as directed by Program Manager or Senior Child Care staff.
- Responsible to ensure a clean, safe, therapeutic and healthy environment within the agency.
- Provide vigilant supervision of residents while looking for opportunities to teach and role model, in all aspects of routine. “Routine” refers to recreational activities, group meetings, meals, bedtimes, etc.
- Facilitates group meetings and activities, both on and off campus (i.e., outings).
- Foster appropriate adult/child relationships; maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Use open, honest, effective, professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ensure assigned paperwork is thorough and accurate.
- Attend training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and use the techniques from that training to prevent and intervene in crisis situations, which may include physical intervention when needed.
- Attend and contribute to all scheduled meetings including weekly staff meetings, supervision meetings, in-service meetings, etc.
- Any additional responsibilities as assigned.
- This position may work across programs to accommodate fluctuations of staff as well as clients served.
