- TITLE: Street Outreach Worker
- SUPERVISOR: RHY Program Manager/Director of RHY Services
- HOURS PER WEEK: 20 includes days, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA or AS in field of Human Services preferred; High School Diploma/GED required
- Familiarity with Albany County resources preferred.
- Valid, driver’s license
- Comfortable interacting with youth in informal/non-traditional settings.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency.
- FUNCTIONS:
- Provide street outreach, gateway and support services to runaway, homeless and street involved youth.
- Prevent the sexual abuse or exploitation of young people living on the streets or in unstable housing.
- Work with youth to find adequate, long-term housing and community support systems.
- RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement agency and program practices including policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Work as part of a team to locate and provide street based outreach services to youth who have runaway, are homeless, are on the streets or are living in unstable, high-risk conditions.
- Develop and maintain a street and community presence in Albany County, and surrounding areas. To include ongoing connections, partnerships and collaborations with law enforcement, education systems, health care providers, shelters, community members and service providers.
- Increase public awareness of youth homelessness and youth access to available services through distribution of promotional materials throughout the capital district and via social media. Including organizing and attending community meetings and events.
- In an authorized St. Anne Institute vehicle, transport youth to all activities or appointments to increase their sense of health, well-being and safety.
- Use open, honest, effective, professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Use the principals of Positive Youth Development, Harm Reduction and Trauma Informed care to develop trusting and supportive relationships with youth that that promote youth engagement and improve outcomes, while maintaining appropriate adult/child relationships (professional boundaries).
- Collect accurate, on-time data as required by all oversight and funding sources. Ensure all data and outreach activities are thoroughly and accurately documented in a timely manner.
- Attend training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and use the techniques to prevent and intervene in crisis situations, which may include physical intervention when needed.
- Attend/complete all required trainings as assigned.
- Attend and contribute to all scheduled meetings including monthly staff meetings, staff development meetings, in-service meetings, and other meetings as directed.
- Abide by the NYS Justice Center and the SAI Codes of Conduct/Ethics
- Perform any additional responsibilities as assigned
- This position may work across all direct care programs to accommodate fluctuations in staffing
