Job Description
I. TITLE: Medical- LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse)
II. SUPERVISOR: Nursing Supervisor
III. HOURS PER WEEK: 40 hours per week (Evenings and weekends)
IV. QUALIFICATIONS: Valid New York State license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Certified in CPR; and
3 or more years of prior nursing employment experience preferred.
V. FUNCTIONS:
To provide a high standard of competent medical care for the girls and staff (as needed) of St. Anne
Institute.
To coordinate with other clinic staff to ensure that the St. Anne Institute Medical Clinic’s daily
operations run smoothly and efficiently.
VI. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the direct medical care of residents of St. Anne Institute
Provide nursing care according to physicians’ orders and in conformance with established
standards of nursing
Record prescribed medications and medical procedures
Pour medications and make rounds daily rounds to administer medications
Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and comfortable environment in the Clinic area
Informs residents of necessary nursing procedures and related health care issues
Follows universal precautions
Provides accurate documentation on all medical matters, accident reports and nurse’s notes
Responsible for appropriate use of equipment and supplies while performing regular duties
Reports to supervisor both verbally and in writing on a regular basis
Understands the provisions of the Nurse Practice Acts of New York State and recognizes the
legal implications
Updates the CONNECTIONS database on a routine basis
Creates and distributes a monthly “Psych Text”, listing all the psychotropic medications
currently prescribed to residents.
Render first aid to staff, as necessary.
Attend regularly scheduled nurse meetings.
Completes 40 hours of continuing education annually (this can be accomplished through a
combination of agency in-services, outside conferences, etc.).
Arrives at work 15 minutes prior to start of shift to review report on previous shift.
Physical demands of this position:
Walk long distances at various intervals throughout the day, carrying a tray
Climb stairs at various intervals throughout the day, carrying a tray
Able to lift at least 50 lbs
Other duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor
This position may work across programs to accommodate fluctuations of staff as well as
clients served
