As an Environmental Service Specialist with us you are essential to ensuring every patient, associate and visitor has an exceptional experience. Providing basic and specialty cleaning services to all areas of the hospital, focusing primarily on the operations of heavy mechanical equipment (e.g., scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, wet vacuuming equipment, etc.) used in the cleaning and maintenance of hard and soft (i.e., carpet) flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways, and public spaces.
Work includes providing a safe care environment for patients, and staff and visitors as appropriate to the setting. Demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff.
- Adhere to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety.
- Operates all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturers safety standards and procedures.
- Performs project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs. Can include tasks such as conference room set up/dismantle according to function sheets and schedules, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units & equipment. Areas include but are not limited to Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health and Burn Unit.
- Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.
- Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e., proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Demonstrates understanding of the training and education related to evidence-based recommendations in accordance with the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for Professional in Infection Control (APIC) and Association for perioperative Nurses (AORN), CDC, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous healthcare experience preferred.

Knowledge and skills in the use of power equipment,
conventional and high-speed floor machines, carpet cleaning
equipment, wet, dry, and power vacuum equipment and push
sweeper. - Ability to operate necessary equipment/machines.
- Ability to explain orally or in writing the differences between levels of disinfection and perform intermediate level disinfection in areas where required.
