Position Purpose:
- To assist the registered pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical services to all patients.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares and delivers medications, IV admixtures, chemotherapy, parenteral nutritional supplements and other products under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Restocks unit-dose fill area and sterile production areas.
- Monitors and replaces floor stock and issue supplies to other departments. Replaces medications and supplies to automated dispensing device(s) [Pyxis]. Prepares and replaces used or out of date crash cart medication trays. Conducts monthly unit / department inspections to ensure that: 1) there are no expired products, 2) all products are stored properly, 3) par levels are not exceeded, and 4) any un-needed products are returned to the pharmacy.
- Performs all clerical and record keeping functions within the department, including, but not limited to: patient charges and credits, controlled substance records, prepackaging records, purchasing and receiving records.
- Maintains inventory in the department by ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies.
- Answers in-coming phone calls and responds to those requests that do not require the actions of a registered pharmacist.
- Picks up physicians' orders and unused or unneeded medications from nursing units.
General Job requirements:
- Able to prepare IV admixtures, parenteral nutrition admixtures, and sterile irrigation fluids.
- Able to prepare chemotherapy admixtures safely in a manner that does not potentially compromise the health and well-being of the individual, fellow employees, or the environment.
- Must possess state license for a registered pharmacy technician.
